Over50 is an initiative to mobilize rental cars to different parts of the country for continuous use.
An initiative to transform the operation of the "Rent a car" service, with more efficient use of resources, generating savings of up to 15% in overtime.
Over50 was born under the umbrella of Grupo ANC; a company dedicated to excellence in car rental services that operates the Alamo Rent a Car, National Car Rental, and Enterprise Rent a Car franchise. They have more than 3000 vehicles in Latin America and 83 branches nationwide.
Enterprise Rent a Car facilities.
Alamo Rent a Car has offices around Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Guatemala.
THE CHALLENGE
Many of the ANC Group's customers are tourists who rent vehicles in the metropolitan area, and travel to the coast or far away places, in order to vacation and enjoy their stay in the country, subsequently returning the vehicle to a nearby office of the Group. This implies that Rent a Car must define the process for returning these cars to the branches with the highest demand in the center of the territory.
The request for this process, known as Drop-off, is variable during the year; without a specific group of people to carry out the transfer of vehicles in high season, the internal staff must stop their work or use overtime to comply with the operations, generating operational disorganization.
The challenge is to find a solution that allows us to organize the vehicle transfer process independently of the variability of demand in the service.
OUR APPROACH
With this idea in mind, it was necessary to land it under a digital approach. To achieve this, we worked under the Design Sprint modality, to validate the initial problem and scope of the project. In the implementation stage, a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) will be developed to go to market with a functional implementation.
In this phase, we define the creation of a social good tool, which allows people over 50 years old to register as collaborators to participate in the process on demand. In this way, the final product would help a social group with difficulties entering the labor market, counting on a great potential of experience and tact.
MAIN NEEDS
Important needs to be taken into account for the implementation of the project were identified:
- To be able to subscribe and add people interested in participating in the service to a database, so that they can be contacted in the future.
- Order and rank people as they complete vehicle transports.
- Show digitally, the means by which people have contact with Over50.
- The segmentation of users ranges from 35 to 60 years old, mainly people with employment needs.
- Reduce vehicle turnaround time and return to service.
- Reduce operational costs for efficient mobilization.
PROPOSAL
Once the business objectives and the main needs of the tool's users are known, it is proposed to make an approach or first version of the product, where its main function is to measure its scope quickly and iterate with information based on new needs.
In the process, user research was carried out to better understand the profile and segmentation of people, as well as sketches, wireframes to communicate the structure and technical strategy, and research into tools that would serve as a database to feed the service.
THE RESULTS
We developed a simple and easy-to-use product for our users, at the same time efficient and straightforward to generate the highest amount of ROI, and feedback from the people involved, and put it into a real scenario in the shortest possible time.
We decided to use a graphic line that was related to vitality and strength, strong colors, and striking elements, in order to generate dynamism and fun.
CONCLUSIONS
Our collaborative working modality directly with ANC Group, in addition to our strategy of rapid implementation and testing with real users, make Over50 an operational and economic success story, as well as functional and beneficial for the end users of the product.
